On Tuesday, July 22, 2026, at approximately 7:57 a.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified that an 11-year-old child had reported that she had been sexually assaulted in Bloomingdale the previous evening. The investigation revealed that the suspect, who was 19-years-old at the time, had committed several acts of sexual penetration against the child. Nasir Sharrock was identified as the assailant and a warrant was issued, charging him with the above crimes. On April 1, 2026, at approximately 9:45 a.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested him without incident in the area of Red Twig Trail and Clark Street in Bloomingdale, New Jersey.
The sentencing exposure on each count of first degree aggravated sexual assault is 15 years to life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison, with 15 years to be served before parole eligibility, pursuant to the Jessica Lunsford Act. On second degree sexual assault, the sentencing exposure is 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with 85 percent parole ineligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act (“NERA”). On third degree endangering the welfare of a child, the sentencing exposure is three to five years in New Jersey State Prison. If convicted, Nasir Sharrock would be subject to Megan’s Law registration requirements and Parole Supervision for Life.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Nasir Sharrock be detained in County Jail pending the resolution of the case. The detention motion will be scheduled at a date and time to be determined by the Court.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, in a court of law.
