Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that Rashid Darrisaw, 39 years old from Haledon, NJ, was arrested on March 27, 2026, after an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. Rashid Darrisaw is charged with second degree endangering the welfare of a child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1).
At approximately 3:40 p.m. on March 17, 2026, members of the Passaic County Special Victims Unit were notified that Rashid Darrisaw, a gym teacher and flag football coach at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, New Jersey, had been exchanging inappropriate electronic messages with a 15-year-old student. Based on the investigation, a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 27, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Darrisaw without incident in the area of Norwood Street and Van Dyke Avenue in Haledon, New Jersey.
The sentencing exposure for Rashid Darrisaw for second degree endangering the welfare of a child is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.
On March 28, 2026, Rashid Darrisaw appeared before the Honorable Vincenzo Stampone, J.M.C., and was released on pretrial monitoring.
