Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 24-year-old JALEN S. EVERETT of Lodi, NJ; 19-year-old JOSHUA M. KHAN of Englewood, NJ; and 20-year-old LOUIS B. PLACIDE of Cresskill, NJ on charges stemming from a shooting incident that occurred in Englewood, NJ. The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Englewood Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Englewood Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the area of the Park View Housing Apartments. Upon arrival, officers located a 33-year-old male with gunshot injuries. The victim was transported by ambulance to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center and hospitalized in stable condition. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were notified, responded to the scene, and initiated a joint investigation with the Englewood Police Department. In addition, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to assist.
The investigation revealed that JOSHUA M. KHAN, LOUIS B. PLACIDE, and JALEN S. EVERETT were involved in the shooting incident. Specifically, the investigation determined that JOSHUA M. KHAN fired a .25 caliber handgun five times, striking the victim twice, before fleeing the scene. LOUIS B. PLACIDE and JALEN S. EVERETT were both present at the shooting and were apprehended by police while fleeing the area. A 9mm handgun was located in PLACIDE’s possession at the time of his arrest, along with a round of hollow-nose ammunition, 14 ounces of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. EVERETT was found to be in possession of 40 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Ultimately, investigators recovered a .25 caliber handgun believed to be the one used in the shooting, and with assistance from the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, located and arrested JOSHUA M. KHAN in Elmwood Park, NJ on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, JALEN S. EVERETT was arrested in Englewood, NJ and charged with two counts of second-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1A; third-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11); fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3; fourth-degree possession of marijuana, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(3)(B); and possession of drug paraphernalia, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense.
As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, LOUIS B. PLACIDE was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon during the commission of a controlled dangerous substance offense, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4.1A; second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(A)1; second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1); two counts of second-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-7.1A; third-degree possession of a firearm within a public park, N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4.6A(10); third-degree possession with intent to distribute marijuana, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11); fourth-degree possession of hollow nose ammunition, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3F(1); fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3; fourth-degree possession of marijuana, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(3)(B); and possession of drug paraphernalia, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense.
On Thursday, April 2, 2026, JOSHUA M. KHAN was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/2C:11-3A(1); one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1); one count of second-degree possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1); and one count of third-degree hindering apprehension, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3(A)3.
All three defendants were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending their first appearances in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
