Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 36-year-old JERMIN FORDYCE of Hackensack, NJ on charges of home invasion burglary, attempted aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated assault. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Hackensack Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.
On Saturday, March 21, 2026, at approximately 3:40 a.m., the Hackensack Police Department responded to a private residence for a home invasion burglary. Upon arrival, responding officers located JERMIN FORDYCE, who had been subdued by residents of the home and held for police after he was discovered in the bedroom of one of the residents. FORDYCE, who was not related to anyone in the dwelling, was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the altercation with the residents. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified, responded to the scene, and initiated a joint investigation with the Hackensack Police Department.
The investigation revealed that JERMIN FORDYCE gained entry to the residence by climbing through a bathroom window. Once inside, he entered one of the rooms, climbed on top of the sleeping victim while removing his pants, and attempted to sexually assault her. During the assault, he strangled the victim. Other residents awoke to the sounds of the struggle inside the victim’s room and captured FORDYCE.
As a result of the investigation, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, JERMIN FORDYCE was charged with first-degree home invasion burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2.1(1); first-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/2C:14-2a(3); and second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1). FORDYCE was remanded to the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
