The Fairfield Police Department is actively seeking the public’s assistance in a motor vehicle theft after an early morning residential burglary that occurred today, March 22, 2026.
At approximately 6:37 am, police headquarters received a notification from a License Plate Reader (LPR) of a stolen vehicle that had entered Fairfield. The vehicle, a white, 2022 BMW X7, bearing NJ U55VUA, was reported stolen on March 15, 2026 out of Clifton, NJ. It is alleged the vehicle was also used in residential burglaries recently in Edison, NJ and Franklin Lakes, NJ. Additionally, it is reported the vehicle was only bearing the rear license plate.
As officers searched the area, Corporal Jeffrey Dean located the stolen BWM on Farmstead Lane. Upon seeing the police vehicle, the stolen BMW jumped a curb and drove over grass to elude Corporal Dean, causing minor damage to the police vehicle in doing so.
Two suspects were seen running to a silver BMW X5 bearing NJ registration K41SLT that was in the driveway, entering it and also evading Corporal Dean. A pursuit was initiated for both vehicles but later terminated after officers lost sight of them on Route 280 East.
Entry was gained to the home through an unlocked rear sliding glass door. It is alleged the keys to the BMW X5 were left in the kitchen. No injuries were reported and the homeowners were unaware of the suspects presence in the home at the time of the burglary. If you have any information on the suspects involved or the location of these vehicles, please contact the Fairfield Police Department, 973-227-1400. All information will be kept confidential.
