Officers responded to a business on Valley Street for a theft. Items taken were two portable cell phone chargers valued at approximately $31.98. The detective bureau is investigating.
1/3/2026 Theft / Eluding
Officers responded to a commercial business on Valley Street for a shoplifting in progress. The actor was observed taking multiple items off of a shelf and concealing them on their person without paying. The actor then entered a vehicle and left the premises. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle subsequently ignored officers’ lights and sirens and continued to elude officers at a high rate of speed. The detective bureau is investigating.
1/7/2026 Attempted Burglary Officers responded to a residence on Montrose Avenue where the resident observed via surveillance camera three individuals attempting to make entry into the dwelling. The individuals were unsuccessful and fled the area. The detective bureau was notified and investigating.
1/7/2026 DWI
Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Mayhew Drive and Redmond Road. No vehicle was located on scene and damaged was caused to a gas lamp and a residential front lawn. A subsequent 9-1-1 call provided a description of a vehicle that was located on North Wyoming Avenue and was parked on the sidewalk. The investigation conducted by officers on scene resulted in the arrest of a 63 year old West Orange male for Driving While Intoxicated. The male was served with his motor vehicle summonses and released to a responsible adult.

Officers responded to a business on Academy Street for a fraud report. Victim reported a total loss of $5,784.41 in unauthorized purchases. The detective bureau is investigating.
1/9/2026 Attempted Burglary
Officers responded to a residence on Tillou Road West. Caller stated she observed an unknown individual in the rear of her residence upon arriving home. The unknown individual then fled in an unknown direction. Canvass of the area showed negative results for the actor.

Officers responded to Vose Avenue for a fraud report. The victim reported sending a total of $4,000.00 via a social media page to purchase a vehicle. The detective bureau was notified and is investigating.
1/11/2026 Domestic Violence Arrest, Aggravated Assault
Officers responded to University Hospital where a report was taken for a domestic violence incident that occurred within the jurisdiction of South Orange. Victim related she was struck multiple times and threatened with a weapon. Investigation resulted in the arrest of a 26 year old male from Union for Aggravated Assault.

Officers responded to a business on Valley Street for a shoplifting. Taken was a bottle of juice valued at $3.08.
1/13/2026 Assist Other Agency / Recovered Stolen Auto
Patrol responded to Comstock Place for a vehicle parked without license plates. Upon investigation it was discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Paterson, New Jersey. The vehicle was impounded and Paterson Police was notified.
1/14/2026 Attempted Auto Theft
Patrol responded to a business on Valley Street for a reported auto theft in progress. Upon arrival the actors had already fled the scene. Surveillance footage depicted the actors attempted to jump start a vehicle. No damage was observed to any of the vehicles on scene.

Patrol responded to Walton Avenue for a report of illegal dumping. Reporting party related that a large pile of household debris and grey trash bags were left in the roadway.
1/14/2026 Trespassing
Patrol responded to a business on Valley Street for an individual refusing to leave. Upon arrival Officers located an individual who admitting refusing to exit the business. It was discovered that this individual was previously communicated that he was a Persona-Non-Grata. He was then issued a Special Complaint-Summons for trespassing.
1/14/2026 Theft
Patrol took a report of theft that occurred at the South Orange Mountain Train Station. Reporting party related that upon return to his vehicle that was left in the parking lot his driver’s side mirror was no longer affixed to his vehicle.
1/15/2026 Burglary
Patrol responded to a Tillou Road West residence for a burglary in progress. Resident discovered unknown actors in their home who fled upon being observed. Proceeds were a Tumi bag and its contents. The detective bureau was notified, responded, and is investigating.
1/15/2026 Warrant Arrest
Patrol initiated a motor vehicle stop on Scotland Road for an observed cell phone violation. The 58 year old female driver was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants out of Newark, New Jersey and Jersey City, New Jersey. She was arrested without incident and turned over to the custody of the Jersey City Police Department.
1/16/2026 Attempted Stolen Auto
Patrol responded to a Mountain Ave residence after the resident observed an unknown individual inside the driver’s seat of his rental vehicle. The actor then fled to another awaiting vehicle and fled south on North Woods Drive. The detective bureau was notified and investigating.
1/17/2026 DWI
Patrol responded to a motor vehicle crash on South Ridgewood Road. During the course of the on scene investigation it was determined that the driver of one of the vehicles was intoxicated. The 25 year old male from Orange, New Jersey was arrested without incident and issued summonses for Driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to chemical breath testing, driving an unregistered vehicle, and careless driving.
1/18/2026 Trespassing
Patrol responded to Seton Hall University after Public Safety located an unknown individual in the stairwell of a building. Upon on scene investigation, the actor was discovered to have been previously notified that he was not allowed on campus. The individual was advised and escorted off campus. No further action taken.

Patrol responded to Mayhew Drive for a report of illegal dumping. South Orange Department of Public Works was notified and responded for cleanup.
1/18/2026 Theft
Patrol responded to a restaurant on Irvington Avenue for a theft report. Caller related that an unknown individual entered the restaurant and placed an order. While the order was being made the individual then stole approximately $50.00 from a tip jar on the counter. The suspect left the restaurant after taking the money. The detective bureau was notified and investigating.

An officer conducting a directed patrol of Sloan Street observed an individual known to the department from numerous previous interactions commit a village ordinance violation. The individual was issued a Special Complaint-Summons for soliciting without a permit.

An officer cleared from a motor vehicle stop near Sloan Street when he observed an individual commit a village ordinance violation. As a result a 61 year old East Orange male was issued a Special Complaint- Summons for soliciting without a permit.
