2 Women Charged in Jersey City Hit-and-Run That Injured Juveniles

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has arrested two individuals in connection with a hit-and-run that injured multiple juveniles in Jersey City on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Tamara Tyre, 32, of Jersey City is charged with five counts of Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1), five counts of Endangering an Injured Victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2a, five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2), five counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (vehicle) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2), three counts of Assault by Auto Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(1), Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (vehicle) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d, and Obstruction in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a. She was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

Yolanda Tyre, 56, of Jersey City, is charged with False Reporting to Law Enforcement in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-4a and Obstruction in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a. She was arrested at her residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of multiple individuals struck by a vehicle on Wilkinson Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Responding officers located four male juveniles – ages 13, 17, 15, and 17, all of Jersey City – who were struck by a vehicle. The four juveniles were operating/occupying two motorized vehicles/mopeds when they were struck by a sedan. A fifth juvenile victim was located during the investigation. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Tamara Tyre was identified as the driver of the Hyundai sedan that struck the juveniles. Yolanda Tyre was identified as a passenger in the vehicle. Yolanda Tyre falsely provided information to investigators identifying a different individual as the passenger in the vehicle.

Prosecutor Mello credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrests. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
