Police Officer Emmanuel Mikros
On February 22, 2026, at 3:05 P.M., the Secaucus Police Department responded to Paterson Plank Road, directly in front of Huber Street School, on a report of an unresponsive male who had no pulse. Upon arrival, Police Officer Emmanuel Mikros immediately began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Police Officer Mikros was assisted by Melvin Chettum, a Secaucus resident, who was passing by and witnessed the 77 year old man on the ground. Police Officer Mikros attached his Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and administered one shock to the man. Police Officer Mikros and Mr. Chettum continued CPR until the arrival of Secaucus University Hospital’s EMTs.
Secaucus University Hospital’s EMTs continued CPR and administered a second shock from Police Officer Mikros’ Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the man. A pulse was found shortly thereafter. The man was transported to Secaucus University Hospital. At the time of this press release, the victim remains in stable condition in the hospital.
“This incident defines the true partnership between the Secaucus Police, the community and other Emergency Services,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “I am extremely proud of Police Officer Mikros’ actions, which are reinforced by the training provided by our department. I also want to commend Melvin Chettum who was just passing by and stopped to help another resident in need.”
