Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced additional charges against 44-year-old CARLOS M. LEON of Fairview, NJ. The additional charges are the result of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.

As previously reported, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that occurred in the past. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department revealed that CARLOS M. LEON sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Fairview, NJ on more than one occasion between November 2024 and January 2026. LEON was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child. LEON made his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ and was ordered detained pending further court action.

As a result of the continuing investigation, detectives subsequently determined that CARLOS M. LEON sexually assaulted an additional victim in July 2017. Accordingly, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, additional charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(7); and second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1) were filed against LEON.

This investigation is continuing. Anyone with additional information may contact the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Tips line at (201) 226-5532.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Fairview Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
