Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the indictment of 44-year-old ANDREW LABRUNO of Dumont, NJ (employed as a Sergeant with the Jersey City Police Department) on charges of official misconduct, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. The indictment is the result of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Englewood Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.

As previously reported, on Monday, November 17, 2025, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred in Englewood, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that ANDREW LABRUNO, a stranger to the victim, engaged in conversation with the juvenile on Grindr, a social media application, and made arrangements to meet. LABRUNO then sexually assaulted and endangered the juvenile at the juvenile’s residence in Englewood, NJ, while the juvenile was home alone. LABRUNO was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. LABRUNO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, where he is currently detained, pending trial.

As the investigation continued, it was subsequently determined that ANDREW LABRUNO identified himself as a police officer during the incident for the purpose of hindering his own apprehension.

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, a Bergen County Grand Jury voted to indict ANDREW LABRUNO on two counts of second-degree official misconduct, N.J.S.A. 2C:30-2; first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(7); second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1); and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1).

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He thanks the Englewood Police Department, the Jersey City Police Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
