Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 44-year-old CARLOS M. LEON of Fairview, NJ on charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief Vincent Belucci.
On Monday, February 2, 2026, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding alleged sexual assaults of a juvenile that had occurred in the past. The investigation revealed that CARLOS M. LEON sexually assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Fairview, NJ on more than one occasion, between November 2024 and January 2026.
As a result of the investigation, on Monday, February 2, 2026, CARLOS M. LEON was charged with five counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(a)(2)(c); two counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3(a); and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a.
On Monday, February 2, 2026, with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, CARLOS M. LEON was arrested in Carlstadt, NJ and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He thanks the Fairview Police Department, the Carlstadt Police Department, the East Rutherford Police Department, and the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team for their assistance in this investigation.
