Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 34-year-old JORLYN PAULINO of New York, NY, for hindering a homicide investigation, which occurred in 2023 in Englewood, NJ. This latest arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Englewood Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.

As previously reported, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at approximately 5:55 a.m., the Englewood Police Department responded to a shooting at a private residence on Mevan Avenue in Englewood, NJ. Upon arrival, responding officers located a 25-year-old male, later identified as Jason Hidalgo, with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Englewood Health Hospital & Medical Center by EMS where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, responded to the scene, and initiated a joint investigation with the Englewood Police Department.

As the investigation progressed, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Englewood Police Department determined that JOSHUA ALVARADO shot Jason Hidalgo and then fled the United States in the hours following the murder. As a result of diligent and relentless efforts by detectives and assistant prosecutors, ALVARADO was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses before being tracked to South America, where he was located and arrested in Medellin, Colombia on February 17, 2024. Subsequently, on December 11, 2025, ALVARADO was successfully extradited back to the United States and remains detained at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ pending further court action.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that JORLYN PAULINO assisted JOSHUA ALVARADO in the aftermath of the homicide. Specifically, detectives discovered that PAULINO assisted ALVARADO’s escape from the area by driving ALVARADO to the border of the United States and Mexico in the hours immediately following the homicide.

On Friday, January 30, 2026, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Englewood Police Department, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (“FBI”) – Safe Streets Task Force and the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”), located and arrested JORLYN PAULINO in Manhattan, NY. PAULINO was charged with third-degree hindering the apprehension of another, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(2). He was placed in the custody of the New York City Department of Correction pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ.

Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Englewood Police Department for its assistance in this investigation. Moreover, he thanks the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI – Safe Streets Task Force, the NYPD, and the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance with the investigation and apprehension of the defendant. Finally, Prosecutor Musella thanks the Colombian National Police and the U.S. Department of Justice for their assistance and partnership throughout this case.
