He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, the Union City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck on 17th Street in the area of Bergenline Avenue. Responding officers located a female victim — later identified as a 32-year-old Union City resident — with serious injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. During the course of the investigation, Mejia was identified as the driver of a Ford E450 that struck the victim.
