Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 47-year-old DEMETRIA YORK of Bergenfield, NJ on charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Deputy Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the River Edge Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael J. Walker.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at approximately 6:15 p.m., the River Edge Police Department responded to a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Kinderkamack Road at the intersection of Windsor Road. Upon arrival, responding officers determined that the vehicle involved left the scene of the collision. The pedestrian, a 35-year-old woman, was transported to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ with serious injuries. Accordingly, the River Edge Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit. Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office, accompanied by investigators from the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, responded to the scene and initiated a joint investigation.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Nissan Sentra struck the pedestrian as she was attempting to cross Kinderkamack Road. Following the collision with the pedestrian, the driver of the Nissan fled the scene of the accident. With the assistance of the Bergenfield Police Department, officers ultimately located the Nissan involved in the collision in Bergenfield, NJ. Subsequently, detectives determined that DEMETRIA YORK was operating the vehicle at the time the pedestrian was struck.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, as a result of the investigation, DEMETRIA YORK was arrested and charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1; third-degree endangering an injured victim, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.2; and third-degree hindering apprehension, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3b(1). YORK was lodged in the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the River Edge Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation. Additionally, he thanks the Bergenfield Police Department, along with the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department and Woodcliff Lake Police Department, which both participate in the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force.
