Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 60-year-old MAURO ALVES-RIBEIRO of Englewood, NJ on charges of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child, and hindering an investigation. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Deputy Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Englewood Police Department, under the direction of Chief Thomas Greeley.
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the Englewood Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that had occurred in Englewood, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that MAURO ALVES-RIBEIRO sexually assaulted and endangered the juvenile in an Englewood residence on more than one occasion in the past. Further investigation revealed that ALVES-RIBEIRO attempted to hinder the investigation by instructing the juvenile to delete text message conversations between him and the victim that were sexual in nature.
As a result of the investigation, on December 5, 2025, MAURO ALVES-RIBEIRO was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1); four counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); third-degree hindering an investigation, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3b(1); and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4). ALVES-RIBEIRO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Englewood Police Department and the New York City Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
