Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 37-year-old ANDREW G. MAURER of Garfield, NJ, on the charge of possession of child sexual abuse material. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the Garfield Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit of a resident from their jurisdiction who may be in possession of child sexual abuse material. Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit initiated an Internet child sexual abuse material investigation, which included a subsequent court-authorized search of ANDREW G. MAURER’s residence in Garfield, NJ. The investigation revealed that MAURER used the Internet to view, download, and possess over 1,000 digital files depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.

As a result of the investigation, ANDREW G. MAURER was arrested on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Phillipsburg, NJ and charged with second-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b)(ii). MAURER was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Garfield Police Department, Phillipsburg Police Department, and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance and coordination in this matter. Additionally, Prosecutor Musella thanks the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department, which participates in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
