News Update from the Mayor

Hello. This is Mayor Mark Zinna with a Friday news update.

Please don’t forget those with food insecurity in our communities. Consider donating some of your unopened and unexpired food or toiletries. Drop off donations at the Tenafly Rotary Club’s food collection box, located between Stop & Shop and Celebrity Bagels. The Rotarians collect and deliver the donations to local food banks. If you are interested in learning more about Rotary or contributing to their support of local needs, they meet at TPR most Thursdays at Noon. You can also mail donations to the Tenafly Rotary Club Charitable Organization, P.O. Box 75, Tenafly NJ 07670.

Boys Varsity Soccer has an amazing 12-0-0 record as of today. They have the lowest number of goals conceded in the State, just 3. The BCCA Semi-Finals against Ramapo are this Saturday night, 7:00 pm at Waldwick High School. Please come out and support our boys who have worked so hard! This is the first time they have made it to semifinals since 2015.

The Senior Center Pancake Breakfast is tomorrow, Saturday, October 25, from 9:00 am to Noon. Join us for this terrific community event. There will be fun kids activities, and everyone is invited. Tickets will be sold at the door. Adults $8.00 Kids $5.00.

Meet the Artist: NYC based artist Gwyneth Leech brings her incredible paintings of Manhattan to Tenafly, and gives a "tour" of her stunning interior murals which transformed St Mary's Cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland. Free admission at the Presbyterian Church, Sunday, October 26 at 4:00 pm. No sign up needed.

This October is full of discovery and adventure at the Nature Center! Bring your little ones to our new Forest School Free Play on October 25 for hands-on nature fun. Then, don’t miss the Haunted Forest on October 26 and meet nocturnal animals, enjoy crafts, and explore the woods after dark. Looking ahead, register now for Autumn Break Camp on November 6 and 7. St. Thomas of Tenafly is hosting a Mediterranean Food Festival this Sunday, October 26, from Noon to 6:00 pm at the corner of 9W and East Clinton Avenue. Shish/Chicken Kebabs, Luleh, Gyro, Cheese Boregh, Manti, Kibbeh, Eech, Pilav, baked goods, refreshments and much more. Children’s entertainment features a clown, magic show, face painting, cotton candy, and balloons. Free admission and plenty of free parking.

The Tenafly Library Friends are truly excited to present an Art Talk with art educator, Janet Mandel, this Monday, October 27 at 10:30 am at the Library. Her talk is the first of a two lecture series. On Monday she will be discussing the life and work of the famous artist Frida Kahlo. In two weeks we will learn about her artist husband, Diego Rivera. Come join us for these wonderful lectures. Free of charge and no registration is needed.

The Korean Community Services center is hosting a Young Professionals Forum on Thursday, October 30 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, a next-generation leadership event. Three distinguished leaders from various fields who are actively making an impact and inspiring the younger generation have been invited. The program will feature a combination of mentoring sessions and networking opportunities, designed to foster meaningful exchanges. After the presentations, there will be a networking session where participants can connect and share insights. We are also pleased to announce that one of our panel guests, representing Hana Makgeolli, has generously agreed to sponsor makgeolli, a traditional Korean beverage made from fermented rice. Tenafly Schools-- The bi-monthly "Let's Talk TPS: October Issue Newsletter" features a focus on multilingual learners, reflecting on 9/11 and exciting happenings from the start of school.

Calling all singers! Join the Tenafly Community Choir and Orchestra singing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Rutter’s What Sweeter Music, and Vaughan Williams’ Christmas Day and secular music of the season. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm starting October 28 in preparation for the concert on December 14 at 7:00 pm. Rehearsals and concert at the Presbyterian Church, 55 Magnolia Avenue. Light The Night, Thursday, November 6 at 6:00 pm. Join us for a moving evening of light, remembrance and community at Light the Night, a special luminary event dedicated to bringing hope and healing. Together we will honor loved ones, celebrate resilience, and shine light. A special event with world class artists, pianist Vassily Primakov and violinist Filip Pogady are joined by cellist and Artistic Director Ani Kalayjian for the first of the new Carriage House Concerts series in a passionate program of works by Tchaikovsky, Arensky and more!
