Phillipsburg Man Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff in Pohatcong

On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 4:45 A.M., members of the Pohatcong Township Police Department responded to Manor Road for an individual that was physically assaulted and threatened with a firearm. Officers on scene made repeated attempts to contact the suspect, Ian M. Walker, who is known to the victim. Due to the nature of the call and the suspect’s refusal to exit the residence, a coordinated response of tactical assets were deployed to the residence to assume control of the scene. After approximately six hours and repeated attempts at making contact, Walker emerged from the residence and was arrested. He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Center pending his first court appearance.

A search warrant was executed at the residence. As a result of the search, various firearms and ammunition were located.

Walker was charged on Complaint Warrants with the offenses below.
  1. Simple Assault, specifically by causing injury to the victim, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1A(1), a disorderly persons offense;
  2. Terroristic Threats, specifically by threatening to kill the victim with a firearm, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3B, a crime of the third degree;
  3. Aggravated Assault, specifically by pointing a firearm at or in the direction of the victim, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1B(4), a crime of the fourth degree;
  4. Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, specifically by pointing a firearm at or in the direction of the victim, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), a crime of the second degree;
  5. Certain Persons not to Possess a Weapon, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7B(2), a crime of the third degree.

Second degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of ten (10) years in the New Jersey State Prison, third degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of five (5) years in the New Jersey State Prison, fourth degree crimes carry a maximum sentence of eighteen (18) months in New Jersey State Prison, and disorderly persons offenses carry a maximum sentence of six (6) months in the Warren County Correctional Center.

The charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation was conducted by the Pohatcong Township Police Department. Assisting with the investigation was the New Jersey State Police Technical Response Bureau, NJSP Crisis Negotiation Team, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Warren County Tactical Response Team, and the Lopatcong Township, Greenwich Township, and Washington Township Police Departments.
