Guttenberg Police Blotter: August 4, 2025 to August 10, 2025

1. On August 4th, 2025, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to an apartment complex near the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard East and 71st Street after receiving reports of male masturbating on a bench. As the result of their on-scene investigation, officers arrested 63-year-old Mark R. Schmitt of Hackensack, NJ, for burglary [2C:19-2A], criminal trespass [2C:18-3A], and lewdness [2C:14-4A]. In addition to these charges, Mr. Schmitt had also provided a false name to officers who responded to the call for service. As a result, Mr. Schmitt was also charged with hindering his own apprehension [2C:29-3B(4)]. Mr. Schmitt was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. During his arrest processing, it was also discovered that Mr. Schmitt had an active warrant, issued by the Hackensack Municipal Court. At the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Schmitt was issued his complaint warrant, stemming from this incident, and issued a complaint summons regarding a criminal trespass investigation from July of this year. Mr. Schmitt was then transported and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

2. On August 4th, 2025, at approximately 3:36PM, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to a report of a fight involving a knife near Bergenline Avenue and 68th Street. As the result of their on-scene investigation, officers and detectives arrested 21-year-old Danilo J. Martinez-Lopez of Guttenberg, NJ, for two (2) counts of aggravated assault [2C:12-1B], two (2) counts of simple assault [2C:12-1A(1)], possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose [2C:39-4D], unlawful possession of a weapon [2C:39-5D], terroristic threats [2C:12-3A], hindering apprehension [2C:29-3B(4)], and disorderly conduct [2C:33-2A(1)]. Mr. Martinez-Lopez was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. At our police headquarters, it was also uncovered that Mr. Martinez-Lopez had an active warrant, issued by the West New York Municipal Court. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Martinez-Lopez was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

3. On August 5th, 2025, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the 100 block of 68th Street, after receiving reports that there was an individual trespassing in a garage. During their on-scene investigation, officers arrested 24-year-old Yusuf Mohamad of Faribault, Minnesota for criminal trespass [2C:18-3]. Mr. Mohamad was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Mohamad was issued his complaint summons and then released from police custody.

4. On August 6th, 2025, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division located and arrested 30-year-old Luis M. Perez of Palisades Park, NJ, who had an active warrant, issued by the Guttenberg Municipal Court. Mr. Perez was then transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for his arrest processing. Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Mr. Perez was issued his complaint warrant and then lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center.

5. On August 10th, 2025, members of the Guttenberg Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a construction site on Polk Street, after receiving reports of individuals trespassing on the property. During their on-scene investigation, officers arrested 25-year-old Maynor A. Zet-Guerra of Cliffside Park, NJ; 41-year-old Valentin Chalino of Union City, NJ; 44-year-old Julio R. Chocoj-Chonay of North Bergen, NJ; and 42-year-old Edy Estrada-Tubac of West New York, NJ, for criminal trespass [2C:18-3]. All four defendants were transported to the Guttenberg Police Department for their arrest processing. Upon the completion of their arrest processing, all four defendants were issued complaint summonses and then released from police custody.

The charges above are merely accusations. Every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
