
Haitham Altartir
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Haitham Altartir, 62 years old, from Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Mr. Altartir was arrested on July 10, 2025, by members of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office following an investigation by the Special Victims Unit.
Mr. Altartir is charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of Children, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a second-degree offense and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3A, a third-degree offense.
On May 15, 2025, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted by the Paterson Police Department regarding an allegation that Mr. Altartir unlawfully touched an intimate part of a 14-year-old child on May 14, 2025, in Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Altartir was identified as a religious instructor to the victim. Based on the investigation, a warrant was issued for Haitham Altartir’s arrest. On July 10, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Mr. Altartir was arrested at the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office located at 30 King Road, Totowa, New Jersey.
The sentencing exposure on second degree Endangering the Welfare of Children is 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison and on third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact it is 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison
On July 10, 2025, Mr. Altartir appeared before Abdelmage Abdelhadi, J.M.C., and was released on pretrial monitoring.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
