West New York Teacher Charged with Sex Crimes Involving Juvenile

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a West New York Middle School teacher after investigating sex crimes involving a juvenile.

Juan Sanchez Moya, 26, of Union City, is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(3) a crime of the first degree; Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(5)(b)(iii), a crime of the third degree; and Distributing Obscene Material to a Person Under 18 in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:34-3b(1), a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at his residence and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

The 17-year-old victim reported meeting the defendant through an online gaming program. The investigation found the defendant exchanged sexually explicit material with the victim. The crimes did not occur at the West New York Middle School and the victim is not a student in the district.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit, with assistance from the Union City Police Department and Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. with the investigation and arrest. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6)
