Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 18-year-old DAVON WHITE of Paterson, NJ and a 17-year-old juvenile from Passaic County, NJ on charges stemming from a carjacking incident that occurred in Lodi, NJ. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Lodi Police Department, under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti.
On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Lodi Police Department responded to a vehicle stolen from a commercial business on Route 46 West. Responding officers learned that the victim/owner of the stolen vehicle was alerted by witnesses that his vehicle was being stolen outside. The victim exited the business and ran toward the vehicle, ultimately jumping on the hood while the vehicle was stopped at a nearby red light. When the light turned green, the stolen vehicle continued driving with the victim on the hood. Shortly thereafter, the victim fell off the vehicle and the stolen car fled the scene.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad was notified by the Lodi Police Department of the incident. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the scene and initiated a joint investigation with the Lodi Police Department. As a result of a three-month investigation, detectives identified DAVON WHITE and a 17-year-old juvenile as the two suspects responsible for the carjacking incident in Lodi, NJ. Additionally, with assistance from the Paterson Police Department, the stolen vehicle was recovered.
On Friday, June 6, 2025, the 17-year-old juvenile was taken into protective custody by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The 17-year-old juvenile was charged with juvenile delinquency, specifically: first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2a(1); second-degree robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); and third-degree theft by unlawful taking (motor vehicle), N.J.S.A. 2C:20-10.1a. The 17-year-old juvenile is currently held in a juvenile detention center, pending future court proceedings.
Later that same day, DAVON WHITE, who was already incarcerated at the Bergen County Jail on an unrelated matter, was served with various criminal charges related to this investigation. Specifically, WHITE was charged with first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2a(1); first-degree use of a juvenile to commit a criminal offense, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-9(a); second-degree robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); third-degree theft by unlawful taking (motor vehicle), N.J.S.A. 2C:20-10.1a; and third-degree altering a motor vehicle, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-6a. WHITE remains in the custody of the Bergen County Jail.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
