The Fairfield Police Department announces the arrest of Hunter Hayek (18), of the Towaco section of Montville, for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash on May 21, 2025. On that date at approximately 9:26 pm, Fairfield officers were dispatched to the area of 100 Horseneck Road for a report of a pedestrian that had been injured after allegedly being struck by a motor vehicle. The pedestrian was attempting to make a food delivery across the street at the time of the crash. It was reported that the vehicle was no longer on scene.
Officers arrived and located the victim seated on the lawn of 100 Horseneck Road with obvious signs of injuries. The suspect vehicle was not on scene and the victim could not recall the sequence of events that had occurred from the crash due to their injuries. Several neighbors were able to assist with providing security camera footage from the time around the crash. A white SUV was observed on these cameras as a possible suspect vehicle.
Through investigative means and the use of Automated License Plate Readers, officers were able to identify the vehicle in question, a 2024 white Lincoln Corsair, which came back registered to a Towaco resident. Further investigation determined the driver was Hayek at the time of the crash.
Officers Ryan Cleary and Louis Bisciotti were able to locate Hayek and the vehicle in question. They were able to allegedly identify damage on the vehicle consistent with the crash.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.
Hayek was subsequently charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury. He was also charged with several motor vehicle violations. Hayek was later released pending an initial appearance in the Essex County Superior Court on May 22, 2025.
