OSCAR QUEST: Sirāt @ The Clairidge, Discussion @ Uncle Momo

Please join us to see Sirāt, one of this year’s Oscar nominees for Best International Feature Film, submitted by Spain. We will see the 3:30 pm screening at The Clairidge in Montclair, followed by dinner and discussion at Uncle Momo Lebanese/Moroccan restaurant on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair.

Tickets are on sale now. We will meet in the theater lobby after the film before we head to the restaurant.

SYNOPSIS:

A father (Sergi López) and his son arrive at a rave deep in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are searching for Mar -- daughter and sister -- who vanished months ago at one of these endless, sleepless parties. Surrounded by electronic music and a raw, unfamiliar sense of freedom, they hand out her photo again and again. Hope is fading, but they push through and follow a group of ravers heading to one last party in the desert. As they venture deeper into the burning wilderness, the journey forces them to confront their own limits.

DISCUSSION: Uncle Momo, 702 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair, NJ. This restaurant is a 10 minute walk from the theater on Bloomfield Ave, and is close to Montclair Art Museum and across the street from Whole Foods, where you might be able to park if you want to drive there after the movie. Since it’s not supposed to be cold (yay!), I’m planning to walk there from the theater. It’s a BYOB described as offering Lebanese, Mediterranean, and Moroccan cuisine in a cozy French bistro atmosphere. We have a 6:00 pm reservation.

It's unfair for the group to wait around after the film for people who do not show up. And it fouls up reservations made at the restaurants we visit. NO SHOWS WILL NOW BE WARNED ONCE AND REMOVED FROM THE GROUP AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. We keep a list of no-shows - please change your RSVP prior to the start of the event so you don't end up on it! Thank you for your consideration.
