Join us for a special documentary screening of Recorder, the remarkable story of Marion Stokes, an unlikely archivist who secretly recorded television news around the clock for more than thirty years. Beginning with the Iranian Hostage Crisis in 1979 and ending in 2012, her project captured wars, political shifts, cultural moments, and everyday broadcasts that reveal how television shaped modern life. Long before the era of “fake news,” Stokes preserved what networks discarded, ultimately saving over 70,000 tapes now housed at the Internet Archive and being digitized for public access. Part mystery, part time capsule, Recorder explores the cost and brilliance of a visionary life devoted to truth, memory, and media accountability.
