Despite the trauma of enslavement, racism and segregation African American artists had their own forms of art. Join Onnie Strother to explore how Black artists before Emancipation created, pottery, quilts, paintings and photographs, which forged a tradition of creativity and
excellence for future generations to follow. Among others, we'll survey the life and work of Augustus Washington, Photographer; Henry Ossawa Tanner, Painter; Grafton Brown, Painter; Edmonia Lewis, Sculptor; and David Drake, Potter.
Made possible by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
