"An Oasis in Today’s World " may seem like an odd title for a study of The Twilight Zone. The television program is commonly thought of as a series of cautionary tales of comeuppance, alienation, fear and malevolence to name a few. However, Rod Serling and his writers did present liberating stories of redemption and second chances as well as endearing themes of sacrifice, love and the strength of the human spirit. In our next season of The Twilight Zone, we will examine five episodes that have what can be called “soft landings”. Each provides a story about the human condition designed to give us hope for life’s outcomes. I hope you will join me as we explore these heartfelt fantasies that will leave you with the comforting thought that change is possible no matter how bleak things may appear.
