We’ve been hearing the term "socialism" in recent years, sometimes as a pejorative and sometimes as a proud self-description (for example from Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Zohran Mamdani). What exactly is democratic socialism? What are its main features? According to its advocates, how well does it do in delivering democracy, efficiency, fairness, and humane values compared to alternative ideologies such as conservatism and liberalism?
